More like the most craven attempt to chase after Reform voters this side of a Nigel Farage wet dream. It's like watching a toddler trying to assemble a nuclear weapon – dangerous and utterly pointless.
Starmer claims it's about "social confidence," about making the system "fair, effective, and humane." Oh, please. If I hear "humane" one more time from a politician proposing policies that will trap people in bureaucratic hell for decades, I might actually vomit.
And the Danish model? Let's be real, Denmark's not exactly a shining beacon of progressive values these days. They've spent the last decade seeing how low they can go, revoking refugee status left and right. I mean, seriously, who looks at that and thinks, "Yeah, that's what we should be doing"?

"Core protection" status? Thirty months at a time, renewable only if you're still deemed "in need of protection"? That's not protection; that's a Sword of Damocles hanging over people's heads for twenty years. No path to citizenship, automatic family reunion gone, benefits tied to economic contribution... It's a recipe for creating a permanent underclass, people so desperate and precarious they'll be exploited at every turn.
Stella Creasy nails it: "Performatively cruel and economically misjudged." You can't stabilize your life if you're constantly worried about being deported. Can't get a job, can't get a bank account, can't get a mortgage. It's almost like they want people to be dependent on the state. Or maybe I'm giving them too much credit... maybe they just haven't thought this through.
And the "olive branch" of expanded "safe and legal" routes? Please. A "capped" expansion? Community sponsorship as the "norm"? That's like offering a thimble of water to someone dying of thirst. It’s a joke.
Then there's the whole "restarting enforced returns to Syria" thing. Syria! A country still in ruins, still ruled by a brutal dictator. Are they insane? Have they not been paying attention?

It's depressing, it's infuriating, and it makes me want to move to another planet. Then again, maybe I'm overreacting. Maybe the public actually wants this. Maybe I'm the one who's out of touch.
